Adsense vs Adbrite vs Project Wonderful. Advertiser showdown.

This is a question posed by many people. I’m here to tell you something you’re not used to. THEY ARE GOOD FOR DIFFERENT PURPOSES!

Never listen to someone who says one is better than the other, it depends on purpose and placement. There many ways to make money from the web these days, and Google Adsense, Adbrite, and other Banner exchange/Bid sites are there to fill your needs.

GOAL OF THIS ARTICLE: Where to use different Advertisers, and why!

First Things First: Blogs are very hard to target for adsense advertising unless your content is VERY defined to a direct market. For example, this article/blog is about HOW TO MARKET your website. It’s very easy for google to throw some advertisements for webmasters and at the beginning of your content when people start getting interested is a good time to throw in a banner.

What sites benefit from Google compared to Adsense or Project Wonderful? This question is a tough one, and it will depend on the market. I find that for gaming related sites, google is the way to go, I have yet to find a good amount of quality adbrite advertisements for gaming. Although, I have found that if you go Project Wonderful on Gaming sites, there are a lot of gaming related Comic sites that will advertise on your site.

  1. Gaming Sites
  2. Webmaster Sites
  3. Electronics/Consumer Electonics Sites
  4. Sports Websites

Those four are the main EASY TO SELL NO MATTER WHAT Google adsense sites. If your site has any of that critera then you are on the road to easy google ads.

If you have a blog or site that contains anything outside that criteria it is time to look at other options.

ADBRITE BENEFITS ON BLOG SITES: One thing about adbrite that is very nice, is the text advertisements that are active in the body of your text. Your page content is scanned and from what I’ve found doens’t really match up to the content of your site, but people click it. I don’t understand it, but I run a website @ http://dxd.gamebend.com It’s an online gaming community and league for a popular computer game. I have numerous advertisement means, I use it as my test site for advertisements since I have an edge. The players in the league are required to go on forums to do many functions in the league, so I can afford to try different advertising techniques that I wouldn’t recommend you try in fear of losing returning visitors.

For Example:

  1. Full Page Ads : BE CAREFUL WITH THESE. Usually a return much more damaging that the income it generates.
  2. In-Text scipt which tries to generate Text ads based on content.
  3. Small 468×60 banner on the bottom of the page that houses the full page ad ad in-text ad.

CAUTIONS OF ADBRITE & PROJECT WONDERFUL: Because it is a bid style site, and your adspot reputation is built in time, if you ever want to change your ad to a different size, you have to wait for the statistics to show how good your site is before anyone even makes a bid on your website. That’s the same reason I have a 468×60 banner in a 768×90 ad spot. The reputation of the smaller banner is so high that I would lose days of profit if I changed it.

TIPS FOR GOOGLE ADSENSE: Remember! You can only have THREE (3) Google adsense banners on any given page. If you have more, it is for nothing, complete waste. So if you have an available spot, I would recommend doing a Project Wonderful Spot, or just doing away with it all together and adding an adbrite IN-TEXT feature to the site.

BANNER PLACEMENT:

  1. Make sure that advertisement is near the first place people look on your site. Navigation, and First Article/Blog.
  2. Make sure your adspace is not hidden or below the footer of your site.
  3. Try to target your advertisements as much as possible (If you’re using Adbrite make sure to cancel bids on banners that won’t generate good click through rate)
